About IONS South Africa 2

Important dates

IONS South Africa 2 is the second to be hosted in South Africa, with the last conference successfully taking place over 5 years ago in 2012. It will also mark the third ever conference hosted in the African continent. We will be facilitating the conference goals with the spirit of ‘Ubuntu’ which is widely known in the African culture here and roughly translates to ‘I am what I am because of who we all are’ so that we provide a platform to learn and move froward as a community of students and learners in this field and building a support structure for the scientists that will take us into the research of tomorrow. IONS South Africa 2 will be co-hosted by the Student Chapters from the University of the Witwatersrand and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. The technical aspect of the conference will cover topics such as laser development, biophotonics, structured light, quantum metrology, and additive manufacturing.
